We teamed up with DXC Technology’s Digital Futures Academy to lead an exciting hands-on activity, where students got the chance to hack into a virtual bank!
The Digital Futures Academy is a four year education programme for secondary school students in the Glasgow City Region. In partnership with Developing the Young Workforce, the academy aims to inspire and prepare the next generation of STEM learners.
As part of the program, students learned about Security and Social Engineering, gaining insights into what it’s like to work in cyber security. Our lesson, “How to Rob A Bank”, is the perfect introduction to cyber security concepts.
In order to stop a cyber criminal, you need to think like a cyber criminal. The student explored ways to protect systems from potential breaches in the future and inspire them to pursue careers in cyber security.
They got the chance to ethically hack our fictional bank, and stole as much money as they could before the time ran out. In total, over £120 million was transferred to the “secret” account (don’t worry – no real money was involved!).
Meeting the young people and volunteers, it’s clear how the academy helps young people develop key social and technical skills that’ll be important as they join the world of work.
Thanks to DXC Technology and DYW West (Developing the Young Workforce) for inviting us along!
Want to see what it’s like to step into the shoes of a cyber criminal and rob a bank? We can run this exciting workshop at your workplace, school, or event.
