Craig and Daniel ran a personal cyber security course for ScotRail apprentices, in partnership with the RMT Union. As these new apprentices begin their careers, we showed them how to protect their personal accounts and keep themselves safe online.
We’ve been offering courses to ScotRail apprentices for years through our close partnership with RMT Scotland. It’s an ongoing collaboration that means every new recruit gets the opportunity to learn essential cyber security skills.
Here’s what we covered on the course:
The apprentices learned about social engineering, the way cyber criminals try to trick people to steal information. Then they watched a practical demonstration of how a cyber criminal could use specialist tools to perform a phishing attack.
We helped the apprentices review their own social media accounts, highlighting what makes an account trustworthy and how to lock down their profiles.
We finished the session with a simulation where apprentices had to prioritise security tasks to keep a fictional train operator, ScotiaRail, safe from cyber threats – all while managing a limited budget.
Cyber security is more important than ever, and by working with ScotRail and the RMT Union, we’re making sure that these apprentices have the knowledge to protect themselves and the rail sector from potential threats.
