I’m proud to share that I’ve been awarded a Churchill Fellowship to explore how people can learn about Generative AI outside of traditional classrooms.
Over the coming months, I’ll be travelling to Finland, Germany, and the United States to research how non-formal learning spaces – like workplaces, community projects, creative programmes, and science centres – are helping people become skilled, critical, and responsible users of this fast-moving technology.
If you know of a person, project, or organisation doing interesting work in this area, please get in touch or connect with me – I’d love to learn from them!
Right now, AI is turning up everywhere. ChatGPT, CoPilot, and Gemini are in our email apps, our internet searches, and in our computer’s systems.
But while these tools are powerful, they’re being added into our daily lives without much explanation. Most of us are left to figure it out on our own. We don’t always know how they work, what they’re good at – or what the risks might be.
Some schools in the UK are starting to teach about AI, which is great.
But most people aren’t in school. So where do the rest of us learn?
That’s what I’ll be exploring on this Fellowship: how adults, communities, and creatives are learning about AI in non-formal settings, and how those lessons could shape education here in the UK.
I’ll be sharing insights as I go, and publishing a final report when I return. But for now – I’d love your help finding the people and projects I should visit.
Got a lead? Send me a message.
