Digital Skills Education has been awarded Arts and Humanities Research Council funding to produce a science show about Generative Artificial Intelligence.
This summer at Dynamic Earth, we’re launching an interactive science show designed to both entertain and educate. The show demystifies how AI works and encourages the audience to think critically about Generative AI’s potential benefits and risks. For instance, can you tell the difference between a poem written by a human and one by an AI bot? And, does it matter if your essays are graded using AI?
Creating a science show specifically for schools on the topic of GenAI is incredibly exciting. Currently, there aren’t there aren’t many resources out there that bring this topic to life for young people, and I believe our show could be a trailblazer.
Daniel Devine, Head of Programmes at Digital Skills Education
Generative AI is a type of artificial intelligence technology that can create (or “generate”) various types of content, including text, images, video, audio.
Alongside partners at University of Edinburgh, University of East Anglia, and Dynamic Earth, we’ll also be investigating ways that Generative AI might be used in a school setting. Could it write an essay for you? Could it replace your teacher? How might it help in the art classroom?
We want to find out how pupils feel about Generative AI, what they understand about it, and what they think are examples of responsible applications of the technology.
Throughout the show, we’ll engage with the audience by asking for their opinions and understanding of AI. Their responses will contribute to the research outcomes of this project.
I’m really looking forward to presenting this fascinating subject to school pupils. I can’t wait to see what they think about AI and its role in their futures.
