We were delighted to present our AI themed science show, Unbelievably Creative, at the BRAID Community Gathering held at the Lowry last week.
Daniel and Kirstie took to the stage to talk about our learnings from taking our Unbelievably Creative AI Show to thousands of young people across the country.
Unbelievably Creative was originally funded as part of the Bridging Responsible AI Divides (BRAID) project. A £15.9 million collaboration of researchers funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC).
The Community Gathering at the Lowry was a chance for successful projects to meet and present their findings.
Thousands of learners have now experienced Unbelievably Creative, and we gathered lots of feedback on their experience with the show, and with Generative AI.
We we found was that most young people aren’t active users or evangelists for generative AI. They tend to be very negative, or quite undecided about AI. And that’s at odds with what most adults expect.
Most young people haven’t used or thought Gen AI enough to form an opinion on their boundaries.
This show is a great way to get them thinking and talking about it, and for adults to hear what they have to say.
The Digital Skills Education team has found BRAID UK a genuinely insightful project to be a part of. Throughout the day so many researchers, creatives, and technologists presented their own Responsible AI projects. AI is a transformational group of technologies, and humanities are central to shaping the morals we follow, and the guardrails the tech companies should adopt.
Daniel’s highlight:
“Responsible AI (R-AI) is a messy area with so many interpretations of ‘responsible’, so I’ve enjoyed reading Fabio Tollon and Shannon Vallor‘s Landscape Study looking at the development of the R-AI Ecosystem. I’ve uploaded the 7 key lessons they identified below, which suscintly summise the challenge ahead.”
We’ve been running The Unbelievably Creative AI Show in science centres, universities, and schools across the UK. It’s suitable for all learners aged 10+.
We also offer training on this topic for educators and practitioners.
