Craig and Daniel worked with the RMT Union to support their induction week for new apprentices joining the CalMac Modern Apprentice programme, by teaching them how to protect their personal accounts and stay safe online.
Over 25 CalMac Modern Apprentices took part in our half-day training covering essential cyber security skills. This course is especially important as they join their first ship and navigate their training period, where they’ll work onboard vessels along the west coast of Scotland.
While the Modern Apprentices are at sea and away from home, they’ll have increased online activity ncluding social media and keeping in touch with family and friends.
The sessions give them fantastic information covering online safety and security and also give them very important guidance on expected behaviour online now that they are employed in an organisation with a very high public profile.
The sessions were first introduced following one young worker leaving the programme for their poor online activity. Since then, as a result the fantastic work of Craig and Daniel on the induction of our young members, all are safely still in employment.
Cyber security is more important than ever, and by partnering with RMT Union and CalMac, we’re making sure these apprentices can protect themselves and their sector from potential cyber risks.
